Paramata Lodge is situated beside ancient kahikatea forest, extensive wetlands and remote beach, and is a South Island haven for New Zealand bird watching.

Last week during a one hour complimentary guided tour we saw in the wild, a wide range of birds; pukeko, New Zealand pigeon, tui, tom tit, silvereyes, kingfisher, paradise shelducks, the uncommon native white heron, gulls, grey warbler, and the rare fern bird.

Guests William and Janey from Oxford in the UK, checked these in their field guide book and compared them with other NZ birds, learning about the origins of the various species and the predators that affect their survival.
