There are numerous scenic drives and walks within 35 km of Paramata Lodge. These include the Ross Goldfields Walk, Hokitika Gorge, Lake Mahinapua, Lake Ianthe and the local glacial river mouths of the Mikonui, Waitaha and Wanganui Rivers.

Day trips from the lodge to the region's top tourist attractions include Franz Josef Glacier in the Westland Tai Poutini National Park and Punakaiki in the Paparoa National Park. At these locations there are walks, lake fishing, horse riding, rafting, heli-flights, fixed wing flights and sky diving.

Specialist bird tours include the Okarito Kiwi and Whataroa White Heron Sanctuary Tours.

Hokitika is the most attractive town on the West Coast located right beside the beach. New Zealand jade or pounamu is only found in this region and being a Taonga (precious item) to Maori you'll find numerous shops that specialise in jewellery and carving.
